The town of Milton has a long history. Once part of Dorchester, in 1662 the city borders were established and the city was named Milton. Milton borders the Neponset River, which supplied power for early industries and mills including the Walter Baker Chocolate Factory for nearly 200 years.
The modern day Milton reflects its history with many 19th century homes. Present day evidence of its history is seen in property borders distinguished by stone walls and stone buildings. Milton offers a residential community lifestyle with tree-lined streets and a lack of commercial industry. Milton has more open space than any other local town through its efforts at land conservation. Home to Milton Academy, Fontbonne Academy and Curry College, Milton is a wonderful place to call home yet within sight of Boston. The Blue Hills Reservation, a 7000 acre state park offers hiking trails, skiing, a trailside museum and beautiful vistas atop the Great Blue Hill containing the weather observatory.
