About Braintree MA

Braintree was founded in 1640.  Located at the crossroads of Route 93 and Route 3 just 12 miles from downtown Boston, the town of Braintree offers affordable housing, many office complexes, and the largest mall in New England, the South Shore Plaza.  Historic Thayer Academy and Archbishop Williams High School draw many students from the region.

Braintree offers many amenities for all of its residents with great public schools, recreation programs, beautiful parks, Sunset Lake and even a public golf course.   Pond Meadow Park is a large 320 acre park with a large pond, trails and a bike path.

General Sylvanus Thayer (founder of West Point) was born in Braintree and his birthplace is open to visitors.  Both the public library and Thayer Academy are named for him.
