About Weymouth MA

Weymouth is the second oldest town in Massachusetts. The Town of Weymouth dates back to 1622 when it originally was named  “Wessagusset”.  Just 13 years later, the name changed to Weymouth in 1635.  Early residents established the community with its fishing and agricultural opportunities and later shoe-making was the dominant business. Today, Weymouth is a community that reivents itself.  A recent example is the redevelopment of the South Shore Naval Base located in the tri-town communities of Weymouth, Abington and Rockland into a mixed use residential and commercial space known as Southfield.  South Shore Hospital continues to expand its healthcare options and is a major employer.

Today, Weymouth is a bedroom community that offers affordable housing within easy commuting distance to Boston.
